Each module is front-loading, through a front door opening to the left with a recessed handle, but materials are deposited through openings placed on the top to choose from; slot, round, square and jumble (combining slot and round). A rubber border around the opening makes the product safer. The lid is angled to prevent debris from accumulating on top of the station.

MATERIAL - The manufacturing material is sheet steel with 50% recycled content, recyclable at end-of-life. The sheet is finished with electrostatic paint (baked-on paint) for high durability. The bin uses 18-gauge sheet steel, except for the bottom, which is 14-gauge. Plastic 58-liter (15 US gal.) liners are inserted inside each compartment. Bags measuring 22" x 36" can be used inside each of the liners. The liners, which feature a lip at the top, are made from plastic with 35% recycled content. Their proper insertion into the compartment is facilitated by two guides attached to the bottom.

FRONT DOOR - The opening on the front of each compartment is a 17" x 29" door, secured with a full-height stainless steel piano hinge. The positioning of the hinge allows the door to open fully. Doors stay closed with magnets, and an optional lock prevents unauthorized access. A recessed handle facilitates door opening.

DISPLAY (optional) - For display purposes, the use of Teflon-finished 3M vinyl stickers makes it easy to change posters as required. The glue used is adapted to metal and electrostatic paint, so that it's just hard enough to remove the stickers (avoiding breakage by users), while still allowing their removal in the event they need to be changed. This type of sticker and adhesive has proved its worth on bins in the Montreal metro, where passengers may be tempted to tear off the sticker. Experience has shown that removal is too difficult, discouraging passengers, but still possible for the poster replacement team. Vinyl stickers are coated with Teflon to ensure durability and prevent wear. Vinyl makes stickers difficult to tear and easy to wash.
